Library staff is busy clearing all patron accounts of fines associated with juvenile materials checked out at HPL. Fines incurred on adult materials, young adult materials, or fines charged by other Monarch member libraries will remain on your account.
While fines for juvenile materials have been waived, charges for materials classified as adult, young adult, lost or damaged items, and ancillary charges such as notice fees, will remain on the account.
The Fine-Free designation is tied to the material, not the borrower. All patrons, juveniles and adults alike, will not be assessed fines when checking out children's materials. Conversely, any account checking out adult or young adult materials are subject to our usual fine policy.
Whether or not fines are charged is determined by the lending library policies. Any Monarch member library's juvenile material checked out at HPL will be Fine-Free and can be returned to any Monarch library for check-in. Likewise, any HPL item checking out at another member's location will follow their lending policies.
However, there is a wrinkle with renewals. If you check out at HPL but renew at another member library, the original checkout policies are nullified, and the renewing library's policies take over. To avoid this situation, we recommend you renew at HPL or another Monarch member library with the same fines policy.
"No fines" does not mean "no responsibility." Our overdue notice procedure will not change. Materials not returned 28 days (4 weeks) after the due date are assumed lost and will be billed to the account for the replacement cost and processing costs.
Overdue fines on children's materials on average make up less than one percent of the library's annual budget. Cuts have not been made to the juvenile collections, and you'll still have the same great selection and service in that department.
Yes! The friendly staff at the circulation desk will gladly take your donation. Donations can always be made directly to the library or the Friends of Horicon Library. Your donation will support critical library programs, services, and materials.
Fines are punitive. Fees are for library services and products such as library cards, copies, faxes, materials replacement costs, etc.
All of the materials in the Children's Room are classified as juvenile materials, including special items such as the STEM Kits and Launch Pads. Juvenile DVDs are on the front side of the first DVD shelving unit.
Monthly charges are billed to the utility customers in accordance with the City approved standard rates.
